Review
The following review contains spoilers!
This is the first concert by Porno Graffitti following the departure of bassist
Tama, but Haruichi and Akihito hold their own without him just fine.
Without Tama, Akihito and Haruichi get more screen time and the support band
gets it’s fair share of screen time too.
This concert retains a lot of the maturity they showed in the 74ers concert,
however without the story element like 74ers it has less of an impact by comparison.
This is their most straightforward concert to date, there’s no behind
the scenes glimpses, it’s just regular concert footage all the way through
from beginning to end.
There is some cute banter between Akihito and Haruichi on stage though which
makes up for that.
A nice feature of this concert is that there is a small star shaped stage
that comes out into the audience, Akihito and Haruichi appear here at the
start and it’s fun to see them perform surrounded by the audience like
that, the audience being so close adds to the atmosphere of the performance.
They make especially good use of this stage in Tokyo Landscape.
Although there is a good mix of dramatic and upbeat songs, Akihito is lacking
in bounce this concert. But then with a run time of just over 2 hours that’s
not so surprising.
Akihito does get the crowd going and Century lovers is particularly fun, he
spends a long time in the lead up getting the audience to give their best
doing the “fu-fu’s” and I think this is the best Century
Lovers performance yet!
Although there are plenty of fun songs it’s only in Dilemma at the very
end that Akihito is his familiar bouncy self, in fact it seems like he’s
been saving up all his bounciness for that one song and he tears about the
stage in a frenzy! It’s a fun performance by everyone!
They perform a lot of their singles in this concert and that’s definitely
fun to see!
Particular worthy of note is Awe~ Oto no nai Mori, which is performed in a
special extended arrangement which makes this epic song even more beautiful
and dramatic.
The DVD comes in a nice sturdy hard-plastic DVD case, it has an insert lyric leaflet which has stylised pictures of Akihito and Haruichi in it and a few small screencap pictures in the back.
The design of the menus is nice and has a funky animation when you go to
the ‘chapters menu’.
There aren’t any extras on the DVD.
This is a good concert but I think it is the least unique and dramatic or
spectacular of their concerts.
