The band members first
met at a High-school festival and formed the band, performing covers of Japanese
rock bands Ziggy and Boowy.
They were separated after graduation but one year later they met again in
Osaka and formed the band again.
While making their first demo, they performed on the streets and in venues
and won a couple of awards! Finally they signed with Amuse (management) and
SME Japan
In their career so far they have since produced loads of albums, (including
2 'Best' albums) singles and Live tour DVD's, and they continue to produce
great music at a fast pace which always rates highly on the Oricon charts!
In June 2004 Masami Shiratama (Tama) left the band to pursue his own interests as a solo artist, but the other members have continued on without him as a two member band to produce the fantastic THUMPx album!
Porno Graffitti have also
done quite a few themes for anime and dramas, they did the opening theme to
Full Metal Alchemist (Melissa) and the second opening theme for GTO (Hitori
No Yoru)
As well as the theme to Dorama 'Suekko Chonan Ane Sannin' (Aiga Yobu Houe)
And if that's not enough their song 'Mugen' was used as the theme for the
2002 FIFA World Cup by NHK Broadcasting.
In 2005 they did the opening theme for the Jdorama 'Konya hitori no bed de' (Jobailo) and in 2006 they did another anime opening for the anime 'Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi' (Winding Road).
